BRIEF PRESIDENT’S REMARKS ON THE CONFEDERATION OF UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES SPORTS ASSOCIATION (CUCSA) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 29TH FEBRUARY, 2020 AT AVANI HOTEL, MASERU, LESOTHO

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Good morning. This, as opposed the report will just be remarks the secretary-general will provide detailed activity report for the year.

2.0 2019 SUBSCRIPTION

We have realized that most members do not pay subscription fees annually, but rather wait until the games. It is a mandate of each member country to make subscription annually at the beginning of each year. We therefore, encourage all members to subscribe at the beginning of each year. We will affect the percentage charge for delay in payment as agreed in the last AGM.

3.0 SPONSORSHIP & CUCSA FUNDS

Ladies and gentlemen, this executive has assumed office at the time several finance obligations were pronounced, among them:
1. Purchase of CUCSA medals
2. Part payment for the General assembly
3. Full sponsorship for the CUCSA exco
This has drastically reduced the CUCSA funds.
CUCSA is yet to find a sponsor for the Confederation games and other championships. The executive committee is engaging different sectors to come on board. We also wish to appreciate that FASU is among us, and hence we can seriously lobby for FASU to support our games and we hope that CUCSA countries can also seriously take part in the FASU games.
We have agreed as the executive that effective these games, all executive committee members will lead by example by paying subscription on time and ensuring their countries bring maximum participation.

4.0 CHAMPIONSHIPS AND OTHER GAMES

No championship games were held in 2019. No country was willing to host any games. It is quite expensive to host games and also to organize teams to travel. Members are now not only engaged in CUCSA activities but also other groupings such as FASU hence, a challenge. We still encourage member countries to take up the challenge and host the championships. We must have at least one activity in 2021 to remain visible.

5.0 FASU/FISU ACTIVITIES

It is important that as CUCSA, we do not lose focus on our games, but instead, strive to improve them and make them admirable. The FASU games and FISU championships that take place in Africa and in our region must indeed be embraced but not at the cost of our CUCSA games. I am therefore, glad that we engaged and came up with dates that do not compromise one over the other.

6.0 CONCLUSION

I wish to sincerely thank LUCSA for being a good member, hosting us for the Annual General Meeting. Let us therefore, start preparing in advance.
I equally thank the CUCSA Executive for your work in the background.
